HALLOWEEN

No one here kills spiders,
but everyone bums cigarettes.
No body interprets, but they all talk.
This is a Halloween party
and it’s amazing what you can do
with a little guts and a little time.
I have access
so everything is turning
for me.
All this blood
and bone
and electricity walking around.
Living meat balls
dance around farting
and like Lillian said
“They were all babies once so how can you take them seriously?”
I am not having an epiphany,
just a good time.

So I stretch out like a resting Mexican
and watch and scribble.
There are too many rivals.
There are too many people
who are hard to know.
Religion will never be persecuted
for it’s misuse of glory.
People have given up the popular
prejudices for the lesser know
and believe themselves hip and righteous,
singing their newfound understanding.
The world is in reflux
but the ideas are still here somewhere.
Some days I don’t feel
anything about much,
I think it means I should
be doing
something else
somewhere else.

“How many times do you think
about how it might be without so much to say?” asks the pen.
And the soul wants for orders,
the brain sings with the monkey
and the eye wants a little more control
and in this room the melody is
nameless,
antiquated,
filling the space
and truth is slippery indeed
when the music’s good.

Time accepts everything
and everything has its time to accept.
And I just did
everything I could
to believe that I
and everything
are all happening in time to something
more important than this poem.
